Make Your WordPress Website Faster with Cloudflare Zaraz

How to utilize Cloudflare Zaraz to make your website faster

Why Site Speed Matters

If your page takes longer than three seconds to load, nearly half of visitors will leave.

Third-party scripts like Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, chat widgets, often load before the page is usable. This can hurt conversions, SEO rankings, and even your ad quality scores.

Meet Cloudflare Zaraz

Zaraz is a feature inside Cloudflare that moves those third-party scripts off your visitor’s browser and runs them on Cloudflare’s edge network instead.
That means:

  • Less JavaScript blocking the page
  • Fewer render-blocking requests
  • Faster first paint and better Core Web Vitals

Zaraz is free to use up to a generous limit: 1,000,000 “Zaraz Events” per month, included with every Cloudflare account.

A Zaraz event is counted every time your site sends data to Zaraz, like a pageview or a custom tracking action, so if one visitor views 3 pages and triggers 2 button-click events, that’s 5 events in total. If your usage exceeds that free quota, additional events come at a low cost: $5 USD for each extra million events per month.

Before You Start: Check Your Baseline

Run your site through PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix and note:

  • First Contentful Paint (FCP)
  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
  • Total Blocking Time (TBT)

We’ll use these numbers later to measure improvement.

Setting Up Zaraz (Step-by-Step)

  1. Enable Zaraz in your Cloudflare dashboard (under “Zaraz” in the left sidebar).
  2. Add a Tool – choose Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, etc.
  3. Paste your tracking ID or Pixel ID.
  4. Select ‘Load After Page Load’ wherever possible to delay non-critical scripts.
  5. Save & Deploy changes.

Tip: start with your analytics and marketing pixels first. If your site uses GTM (Google Tag Manager), Zaraz can host that as well.

Test Again

Re-run your page-speed test.
You should see a reduction in:

  • Total blocking time
  • Number of render-blocking scripts
  • Overall load time

A drop of even 300-500 ms is valuable, especially on mobile.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

  • Don’t move essential functionality (like checkout scripts) until you test thoroughly.
  • Make changes one script at a time so you can trace issues quickly.
  • Remember to clear both Cloudflare cache and your site’s cache plugin after changes.
